‘The Arch’ Desmond Tutu

Sculpture commissioned by the National Heritage Monument(NHM) and was a collaboration with Tania Lee.

‘The Arch’ is sculpture number 102 and part of a large procession of bronzes called ‘The Long March to Freedom'(Century City/Cape Town) celebrating the South Africa’s known and unsung heroes of the past 3 centuries who did their part in the struggle for human rights and dignity.

This has been one of the most rewarding sculptures that we have worked on for the LMTF. It was daunting and exciting to attempt to capture the approachable and jocular nature of a man who was known and loved the world over. We took special care sculpting his hands as they were an integral part of his expressive presence as an orator.

Unveiled around Human Rights Day 2023.
